Green Lane Incinerator

The planning applications for the Green Lane Incinerator have now been submitted by Sky Properties to the City Council, and they are likely to be discussed at the planning committee in October or November. Both myself and John Cullen have been working with the Say No To Green Lane Incinerator campaign group over the summer to make sure local residents are aware that the applications have now gone in so they can make their views known. Residents are concerned about the noise, traffic, congestion, health impacts and disturbance that such a plant would cause in this primarily residential area, and the Council has now received nearly 700 formal objections.
This Saturday 18th September the campaign group are planning a wheely bin march through Monton and Patricroft to raise awareness of the campaign, and over 100 residents are expected to take part. Monton has changed dramatically over the years and has long since shed its former industrial image of the 1950s and 1960s. It’s now an attractive and desirable place to live, favoured by families. That’s why so many local people are angry at the prospect of a huge waste transfer facility being built on Green Lane, which goes against the future vision the community has for the area.
