Hazel Blears MP welcomes announcement that the City of Salford Stadium will be a host venue for the Rugby League World Cup 2013

Hazel Blears MP for Salford and Eccles has welcomed today’s (Monday 28th November) announcement that the new City of Salford Stadium will be a host venue to one of the games in the Rugby League World Cup 2013 and will be an official World Cup team base.
Salford beat off stiff competition in the bid to host a match and a team during the 2013 World Cup.
Hazel Blears MP said:
“Today’s announcement is a brilliant achievement. To be chosen as a host venue and able to welcome one of the 14 national teams to our great City and fantastic new stadium is another real boost for Salford.”
“We have a state-of-the-art stadium which will be placed firmly on the international stage as well as providing the very best sporting facilities for local people.“
“I want to offer my congratulations to everyone who has been involved in helping make Salford’s bid one of the successes.”
